Architecture Photographers:
An interview with Vincent Wernhardt

Vincent Wernhardt, also known as vinxibit on deviantART, has one prominent gallery within the Architecture Photography category. His photographs, through creative use of camera angles and well-thought composition, take any architectural element to pure abstraction and leave us with a gallery full of shapes and colours.
Today Vincent will answer a few questions for us to get to know him better! :w00t:

Andalusia

How would you introduce yourself in a few words?

I am somebody who likes to be unique in what he does. The photos I take are a reflection of the character traits I am most proud of.

How did you first get your hands on a camera?

The first time I got interested in photography was only a few years back. A colleague of my father literally had a Canon EOS D350 just lying around – he didn’t even go looking for it when I borrowed it for more than half a year! Although I found the complexity of the subject mildly intimidating in the beginning I had a great time playing around with all the dials, features and several lenses. Shortly after this first experience I got my own kit, which I still use as of now.

What do you like about Architecture Photography?

I am really fascinated by the minimalistic and abstract aspect of it. But I also like the contained cleanliness and purity, for it gives me a feeling of stability and control over the world around me – which of course is an illusion, but that’s why we do art in the first place, right?

Transmission

What would you like to be able to shoot and you never had the means or the chance to?

Definitely spherical panos. There are endless possibilities regarding freaky perspectives and viewpoints – all made possible through the appropriate (and unfortunately bl**dy expensive) equipment.

What or who inspires you?

A difficult question to respond to... I mainly try to get inspiration through fellow photographers, but there are also other kinds of art that I consider very inspiring: vector and fractal i.e..

What are the works you're most pleased with and why?

"Prolog" - vibrant colours and unusual architecture of the place

Bull Shit by vinxibit
"Bull Shit" - the play with light and geometry

Dry by vinxibit
"Dry" - most minimalistic shot I did so far

A lot of your works are minimalistic. Is it something you find most interesting in Architecture Photography?

When I look at a picture I would like to be able to discern the different parts of which the composition is made of... this mostly applies to minimalistic shots, but I don’t make this a criterion for aestheticism.

If you were offered an all-expenses holiday in any place in the world, where would you go and why?

Since I’ve never been to the States I would opt for a week-end trip to Chicago. Seen some pretty shots here on deviantart of Chicago, but I’m sure that there are other cities which might also be very interesting from a photographic viewpoint.

What does a perfect day include for you?

Perfect clouds with a crisp blue sky and a light breeze.

Freedom

What's your hidden superpower?

Index finger, ultra wide angle lens and Photoshop. But seriously? Photoshop.

What's one of your childhood dream you still wish came true?

Can’t think of one! Perhaps I am living my dream.

Tomorrow you're offered to spend the day with anyone in the world — dead or alive. Who do you spend it with?

Steve Jobs. Always wondered how he would act in a casual, non-computer related situation. He remains a person with great influence on me (design-wise).

Osmosis

If you had to sum up Architecture in 3 words, what would they be?

Man-made. Momentariness. Crucial.

I mistype Architecture Photography a lot. So for the funs of it, I'll ask you to shut your eyes and type 'Architecture Photography'!
